I returned from Ethiopia in November where I served with a small medical team which provided care to people in little villages around the Yetebon area - a beautiful area south of Addis with rolling hills, fertile valleys, and wonderful people. They were very appreciative of our care, very poor, and had great needs.
I taught the Ethiopian gynecologist at the Yetebon hospital at Project Mercy a procedure to treat prolapse - which he will now be able to continue to offer - and also worked in the mobile clinics seeing patients with a wide variety of problems. We offered antibiotics and other direct care, but also did a lot of health education as part of our efforts.
This was a great time for me personally - opening my eyes and my heart to new people and new experiences which will stay with me forever. Also, it made me even more appreciative of this great country of ours and all it has accomplished in the hundreds of years since its inception.
