I have gone to Rwanda in 2001 and to Ethiopia twice, in 2006 and 2008. I have a trip planned for this spring to Liberia and I would like to go to a little hospital in Honduras at some point this year.
The trip to Liberia is to a little outpatient clinic that was opened a few months ago by a Liberian church group that wanted to reach out to their community. The clinic is the only health care facility for many miles for the people in this region near Monrovia. Our team will go to work with the Liberian staff. We will do staff education and development as well as public health teaching for the community. We will also be assessing needs in order to plan future trips.
The hospital in Honduras is staffed by a group of about eight American doctors. The offer prenatal care and do some surgery as well as regular outpatient medicine. I believe that I could offer some help with regular trips. A trip later this year would help develop that relationship.
Other trips will be planned as they become available and known to me. There are certainly many, many opportunities to serve in many areas of the world. We truly do live in a society that is tremendously blessed. Many others are not so fortunate. |
